Oriental pied hornbill, Khao Sok National Park, Thailand This tour is an extended version of our Khao Sok Jungle Safari. After exploring the rural sides of Bangkok, we head south to enjoy some of Thailand's beautiful natural environment. Taking in Khao Sok National Park, with its limestone cliffs, forests and lakes, and then heading to the islands of Ko Samui and Ko Tao, this tour gives a taste of the huge variety of spectacular countryside and wildlife Thailand has to offer.
Featuring a wide range of accommodation from comforable hotels and beach bunglow resorts, to tree & raft-houses and tents or basic beach huts, we've designed this tour to have a balance between some adventurous safaris and activities, a chance to learn more about Thailand's customs & culture, and some free time and relaxation.
In Bangkok we explore local villages and countryside by bicycle and canal boat and visit the colourful Damnoen Saduak floating market (a sightseeing tour of the Grand Palace and other temples is available for those who don't want to cycle).
Eld's deer in Thailand Leaving Bangkok we take the sleeper train to Khao Sok National Park, home of the oldest evergreen rainforest in the world. The park features some spectacular limestone scenery, with deep valleys, lakes, caves and rivers and an abundance of wildlife including some tigers in dense regions of the forest. Elephant, gaur, serow, benteng, Malay sun-bear, Malay tapir and wild pig roam the forest floor while gibbon, languor and macaque are seen in the canopy above. Over 180 bird species can be seen in the park including 5 species of hornbill, the giant argues pheasant and 13 species of woodpecker. While in the park, we enjoy several nature walks into the forest, visit a local village temple & caves, and explore the lake by boat and canoe.
Teira batfish at Sail Rock, Koh Tao, Thailand From Khao Sok, we head west and travel by ferry to visit some of Thailand's famous coral-ringed islands. We base ourselves in Ko Samui where we have plenty of free time to explore the island and relax on the beach. The tour also features an overnight trip by boat to the Ao Nang Marine National Park for snorkelling and a beautiful night sleeping in tents or basic beach bungalows. There is a chance to do more snorkelling and try some scuba diving back on Ko Samui before we head back by boat and an overnight sleeper train to Bangkok.
The tour finishes with a long-tail boat trip around Bangkok's rural suburbs, visiting an orchid farm, local temples and the boat-house where the royal barges are kept and maintained, before you have one last night in your hotel and we transfer you back to the airport for your departure.
Our Thailand Wildlife Safari follows exactly the same itinerary as this tour, but adds visits to Kanchanaburi, the Bridge on the River Kwai, and Erawan National Park to the start of the holiday.
